More children on the North Coast will have access to high quality early childhood education with the following services receiving grants to upgrade their services:
- Byron Bay Preschool
- Lismore Preschool
- Goonellabah Preschool
- Ngallingnee Jarjum Tabulam & District Community Preschool
This builds on the NSW Government’s recent announcement that preschool fees in NSW have reduced by an average of 25 per cent, following an historic investment of $330 million to ensure more children have access to 600 hours of quality, affordable early childhood education.
Minister for Early Childhood Education Sarah Mitchell said the NSW Government is putting kids in regions like the North Coast at the top of the priority list.
“Early childhood education is vital to childhood development. Children who have access to top quality services have a head start when they begin primary school and these benefits stay with them for life,” Mrs Mitchell said.
“That’s why the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is investing in the infrastructure of our regional preschools to ensure that every child has every opportunity to access quality early childhood education.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Northern NSW Ben Franklin said these grants will be used to construct a new building at Byron Bay Preschool, a new room at Goonellabah Preschool and Ngallingnee JarjumTabulum Preschool and a purpose built flood resilient structure at Lismore Preschool.
“The North Coast’s future doctors, teachers and lawyers are being shaped in our preschools as we speak, so it really is an investment in the future of our community,” he said.
“Early childhood education is crucial in ensuring children have the best start to their lives as possible,” Member for Lismore Thomas George said.
“I look forward to watching these services thrive following the implementation of the grants.”
These services are some of 16 services across NSW receiving funding under the NSW Government’s $10 million Start Strong Capital Works Grants program.
