Ballina will soon be home to a new four court indoor sport centre with $3.5 million in NSW Liberal & Nationals Government funding announced today.
Nationals Parliamentary Secretary for Northern NSW Ben Franklin made the announcement, which will allow Ballina Shire Council to construct two additional indoor courts at the new Ballina Coast High School site.
Mr Franklin said sport is central to the lives of so many people on the North Coast, and this new facility will support the communities sporting endeavours.
“Sport provides incredible social and health benefits and the new sport centre will mean more people can take part in local sport,” said Mr Franklin.
Mr Franklin said the whole sport centre will include four indoor courts – two as part of the new Ballina Coast High School and two adjacent courts which Ballina Shire Council will construct.
“The two indoor courts which are part of the new Ballina Coast High School will provide a top class sport facility for the school’s students,” Mr Franklin said.
“The $3.5 million in funding announced today will mean our community can have access to two additional indoor courts at the school site.
“These Council constructed courts will be available for community use during school hours and the whole centre will available for the community to use outside of school hours.”
Mr Franklin said that in addition to the indoor courts, the centre will include a spectator area, an operations room, storage rooms, an administration office, meeting space, a kitchen space as well as change rooms and amenities.
“Ballina Mayor David Wright and the Council have worked incredibly hard for many years to develop this project and to find the ideal location. I am thrilled that the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government can help bring the project to life,” Mr Franklin said.
The funding is part of the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government’s $100 million Regional Sport Infrastructure Fund.
